The transport captain is in charge of the transport department. This department covers the provision of cars, minibuses, trucks and facilities vehicles used by the production. Vehicles would include cars for transporting cast and producers to and from set and airport pick-ups. Minibuses and coaches to transport crew and extras to sets. Facilities vehicles include trailers, dining buses etc. and the captain will be in charge of planning the move of all these vehicles from location to location. Sometimes this involves moving these vehicles abroad.
For this role you will need
Excellent driving experience
Previous experience as a driver in the transport department
An excellent geographical knowledge
Knowledge of international and national rules of the road
Good knowledge of the regulations around driving and a duty to ensure the drivers adhere to the regulations
Excellent timekeeping
Have good planning and organisational skills
Good management skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Captains will normally have worked as drivers with the transport department before becoming captains.
